Modernism is characterised by a deliberate reflection of the styles of the past and emphasising innovation and experimentations in forms, materials and technique in order to create artwork that reflect modern society. Art went from religious themes to personal expression.
Eventually, the era of post-modernism came and the question "Is art really progressive?" became widely asked, leading to the discovery of new meanings and self-expression especially in the social environment. It became the ironical and playful treatment of a fragmented subject, the breakdown of high and low culture hierarchies and the undermining of concepts of authenticity and originality.
There were different type of movements that began to rise. Such as:
-Dada
-Surrealism
-Conceptualism
-Pop Art
I'm really inspired by post-modernism movements, in particular surrealism, because you can make a very strong statement and impact if your art is based on this. To symbolise society in an artistic matter can be very interesting, as it can be unconventional and out of the box and it can be ridiculously unrealistic yet make sense..
