Next up, the start of project 1! Since spatial design or architecture in general isn’t my specialty, I was very nervous when starting this since I’m quite horrible at designing things in this aspect, but I powered through and tried what I could.

For the first two planes these are a few ideas I came up with:

I eventually settled with this:

I decided that my structure would have 10 floors, on each alternating floor it would be made out of foam and the rest would be made out of model card.

I wanted to create something that wasn’t conventional, but instead, perhaps something more abstract. So, I decided that my goal was to make as many voids as possible by angling each floor in a certain way that was creative yet, it was able to hold the structure together.

Eventually, after a long night of what seemed like an endless amount of super glue I finally finished it. Here’s my finished product!

I wasn’t particularly happy with the end result but I was quite proud that I managed to finish something like this despite the fact that this subject isn’t my strong point. Although it looks quite unstable, it’s surprisingly very stable! I believe it’s because of the different density and thickness of the pillars I used as support, especially the combination of both nails and foam.

Here are some photos of my structure under light. As you can see the shadows created are quite interesting, especially if you look at it in different angles.
