Our next exercise for this project is about rhythm and repetition in architecture. To put it more specifically we learned about unity and variety. There are three types: grid and matrix, degree of unity and increasing variety (ignore the picture where it says unity).

For rhythm we learned that there are four types: regular rhythm, flowing rhythm, alternating rhythm and random rhythm.

Our assignment is to choose one unity + variety picture and one rhythm picture and combine the two to create a new pattern. From the pattern we’re supposed to cut out the shape and extend it/elongate it in creative ways that create shadows that looks different from the original design.
At first i was wondering if I should work with the watermelon pattern and I tried out a few designs.
However I eventually settled with these two:
I then decided two designs for it:
After asking Ms Sin Ai for confirmation, she recommended that I choose the one on the right, which will be my base for this exercise.
